More on the MIT Media Lab under $100 laptop

Filed under: Technology - Administrator @ 8:46 am

According to The Cult of Mac Blog, Steve Jobs offered Mac OS X for the MIT laptop.

Whilst it is a nice move, and I do believe it was through altruistic reasons, I ‘m glad Nicholas Negroponte and his colleagues stuck to their guns of everything involved in the project being open sourced

How very Captain America

Hikers have found the body of a World War II airmanfrozen in a glacier which is reminiscent of the way Captain America was brought back to life in the sixties

Hikers found the frozen body of an airman while scaling Mount Mendel Glacier in the Kings Canyon National Park. Now, the military is working to find out who this airman is and whether he was ever reported missing.
It’s believed the airman has been frozen in the glacier for decades until a pair of climbers got much more than ever imagined on a hike.

Simply Red rerecording their old records

Filed under: Music - Administrator @ 3:09 pm

Here’s an interesting story Mick Hucknallis rerecording his entire back catalogue so that he can have control of it for licensing rather than Warner Records.

The new recordings of global hits such as Stars and A New Flame will be owned by Hucknall’s own label, simplyred.com.
“Warner has all of the rights to the original recordings, but they don’t seem to be doing an awful lot with them,” says the band’s manager, Ian Grenfell. “We think we can do more with those recordings than they can. We’ve got a dozen people and all they work on is Simply Red.”

Personally I can’t bear to hear his voice for a second but I appload his standing up to the bullyish record companies. He’s also created his own record label to sell his work bypassing the record companies entirely - talk about shape of things to come
